Mandalpatti sits in the traditional highlands of Kodagu, within the Pushpagiri forest landscape of the Western Ghats. For generations these ridges were used by local Kodava communities. The surrounding area later developed with the spread of coffee estates after the British annexation of Kodagu in 1834.
