Vizianagaram is the kind of place seasoned travellers use as a calm base rather than a tick-box stop. It is a fort town in the Uttarandhra (north coastal Andhra) region, about 18 km inland from the Bay of Bengal and roughly 52 km northeast of Visakhapatnam.
